# Hosting the CLR - the native approach

By Roy Osherove September 1, 2003 In [.Net Original](https://osherove.com/blog/category/net-original), [Cool Articles](https://osherove.com/blog/category/cool-articles)

**Historical article** · Originally published September 1, 2003; technical details may be outdated.

A while ago I [posted about a user group session](http://weblogs.asp.net/rosherove/posts/24800.aspx) which involved explanations about CLR hosting, among others. Hosting can be done either through COM interfaces or through native C or C++. Although the lecturer talked about each approach, one of the people who came with me from our company, Michael, was looking for a good example of just how to do native CLR loading and hosting, and came up with this: [Hosting the CLR](http://www.elitevb.com/content/01,0095,01/01.aspx).  Surprisingly, the article is hosted on [EliteVB](http://www.elitevb.com/) which is all about VB :).
