# Free chapter from "Essential .Net" by Don Box

By Roy Osherove September 22, 2003 In [Free book chapters](https://osherove.com/blog/category/free-book-chapters)

**Historical article** · Originally published September 22, 2003; technical details may be outdated.

Found this out through the DOTNET-CLR mailing list: You can read a [free chapter](https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201734117/iserializable-20) from [Don Box](http://www.gotdotnet.com/team/dbox/)'s latest book [Essential .Net, Volume 1](https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201734117/iserializable-20), over at [Amazon](https://osherove.com/blog/2003/9/22/www.amazon.com). Looks very promising. it's chapter 3 and it's called “_Type Basics_” but I fear that “basics” is hardly the word to describe it. **Excellent** :)
