# Service-Oriented Architecture and Programming

By Roy Osherove September 5, 2003 In [Cool Articles](https://osherove.com/blog/category/cool-articles)

**Historical article** · Originally published September 5, 2003; technical details may be outdated.

Just finished watching these two MSDN TV shows:

[SOAP: Service-Oriented Architecture and Programming, Pt. 1](http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdntv/episode.aspx?xml=episodes/en/20030827SOAPDB/manifest.xml)

[SOAP: Service-Oriented Architecture and Programming, Pt. 2](http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdntv/episode.aspx?xml=episodes/en/20030902SOAPDB/manifest.xml)

which are just the same lecture by Don box split in two.

First, **Don is a hell of a lecturer**. Second, It's a very good lecture about what/where/when/why abstractions and services and OOP and all that stuff came to be. Even though I'm not into all that SOAP stuff, I actually got a lot out of it, and feel like I understand a little bit more about the problems and challenges that face us as developers and the people who are behind SOAP. Excellent! Thanks [Chris](http://www.sellsbrothers.com/) .
