# Services without components on a pre-SP2 XP machine?

By Roy Osherove September 3, 2004 In [.Net Quotations](https://osherove.com/blog/category/net-quotations)

[Saar has a nice post](http://dotnetjunkies.com/WebLog/saarc/archive/2004/08/18/22419.aspx) detailing how you could hack your way in and out of a transaction using SWC Services without components) even if you don't have SP2 installed on your XP machine. The funny thing is that SWC \*did\* work on my XP SP1 machine without any hacks needed, but did \*not\* run on a different XP SP1 machine I had used.

[There's an explanation for this](http://www.winterdom.com/weblog/archives/000227.html)  . you might want to note that his hack did not work anymore after installing some hot fix. Still - this is something I'll keep here for future reference.
