# Come to my .NET Architects talk this month: Guidance Automation Tookit and LINQ preview

By Roy Osherove October 8, 2005 In [Architecture](https://osherove.com/blog/category/architecture)

**Historical article** · Originally published October 8, 2005; technical details may be outdated.

I'll be doing the next talk at [the Israeli .NET Architects user group](http://www.microsoft.com/israel/events/default.aspx?pageType=1&idType=1&id=28) this month, at the 27/10.

Here's a summary of the talk. Should be interesting! (see the link for location details)

This month, we will focus on 2 very interesting toolkits and technologies.

**Part I: Establishing a development architecture using the Microsoft Guidance Automation Toolkit**

For more information about this topic, browse to: [http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/teamsystem/workshop/gat](http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/teamsystem/workshop/gat "http")

Using the patterns & practices of the Guidance Automation Toolkit, you can make reusable code and pattern assets directly available in Visual Studio 2005.

The toolkit is designed to simplify integrating reusable code into applications allowing architects to automate development activities that developers would usually have to perform manually; often by following a series of instructions. By using the toolkit, architects can also ensure that repetitive and often error-prone activities are performed in a consistent manner, streamlining and accelerating the development process.

The toolkit can be used with assets developed in-house or by third parties; such as the assets created by the Microsoft patterns & practices team. These assets can be exposed to developers within Visual Studio, and in some cases, configured by using configuration files, templates, and wizards. Expect demos and code examples.

**Part II: A preview of the LINQ project: An extensible Language Integrated Query infrastructure in .NET 3.0**

For more information about this topic, browse to: [http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/future/linq/](http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/future/linq/ "http")

The LINQ Project is a codename for a set of extensions to the .NET Framework that encompass language-integrated query, set, and transform operations. It extends C# and Visual Basic with native language syntax for queries and provides class libraries to take advantage of these capabilities. Find out about the general-purpose query facilities added to the .NET Framework that apply to all sources of information, including (but not limited to) relational or XML data. We'll hopefully have some very cool demos of this LINQ in action.
